Plastic window is nothing to be afraid of if it has been and continues to be maintained properly. Obviously it cannot be tinted but is easier to see out of. If by chance you fall in love with one that needs it, Honda does make replacement parts without having to snag the whole top.
Actually, the plastic window can be tinted. I've had mine tinted for over 3 years now. In fact, I got tired of "maintaining" my window...err, actually I got tired of contorting myself into the are to get to maintain it, so the last time I polished up the plastic window was the last time.

I polished the window to such a clear that it looked like the window was no longer there. I used a "static cling" tint that hecash used. After seeing his window after repeated "up and downs" using the tint, I was sold. Use the tint on the outside of the window; it protects the outside from scrathing against itself, and from creasing because of the thickness of the tint. The inside of the window is protected by using a well mat (one of which is made by "Muz").

If you're trying to find a "budget" s2000, I'd vouch for finding a MY2000 or a MY2001. If maintained properly, high mileage S2Ks are nothing to be scared of. I for one have had a very reliable S2000...albeit that it was overly maintained, but driven as well. Also, don't shy away from a car that hasn't been maintained by the dealer. I stopped dealer work for everything but major warranty work once I saw local dealers treating my S2000 like a rust-cancer ridded 1977 CVCC.

Oh...and if you want to drop the top on a cold day and have a plastic window, just drive your car a bit until it's warm. Then at a stop light or so, blast the heat in the cabin to the highest setting for a minute or two. This will warm the plastic sufficiently to be able to drop it without any concern.

Getting it back up is another issue, though.

As for further discussing the issue about plastic windows...keep in mind, there is no need for additional wiring, switches, and relays for defrosters used on glass-topped verts.

I do think the plastic window gives the S2K the element the original SSM was designed around (functionality, no fluff, close-to-bare-bones street car). Aside from the "fluff", keep in mind that additional "systems" incorporate wiring, relays, defroster lines, switches that can fail. The cars without these systems have no way failing...can't break if it's not there.

To further your search, I'd check ebay, this site, S2KCA, craiglist.com, Carmax.com, Honda.com (you can search their dealer network inventory from Honda USA's site), and maybe even Google.

re: glass vs. plastic window. yesterday morning, i had the sudden urge to drop the top even tho it was only 20 deg outside. granted, i DIDN'T drop the top, but if wanted to, i could've. and if you had a plastic rear window, it woulda cracked into bits. having owned 2 miatas + this convertible, let it be known: plastic windows are the SUCK. the end.
I thought I read that the top material iteself is not plyable at those temps. Glass or Plastic.
