i'm really looking for at least an 02...i want the glass window. only way i'd go older is if its a deal i just can't pass up or if the car is just so clean that has the parts to distract me me from the plastic window.

question to all with '00 and '01 models, how is the car holding up? does the car still feel solid after all these years? i have a 97 maxima and its just rickety as all hell now. the car runs great but damn when i go over some rough roads its creaks, rattles, squeaks and it drives me nuts.
Mine is rock solid. Of course it is over maintained and mostly a garage queen.

Do the obvious things, check CarFax, call the dealer with the VIN and make sure it has had all of the recalls performed. If you can, find the local Honda store where they had it serviced and speak to someone in the service department. You'd be suprized what the dealer will tell you with a little smooth talk. I don't have my S2 serviced locally but the dealer that does do my work remembers me as the guy who brings his own supplies and fender covers. You may even get lucky and obtain copies of all the service records. In the past I have asked potential sellers for permission to call and those who get wierd usually do for a reason. Don't be afraid to ask, you worked hard for the money and deserve to know as much about the car as you can.

Good luck!!

Plastic window is nothing to be afraid of if it has been and continues to be maintained properly. Obviously it cannot be tinted but is easier to see out of. If by chance you fall in love with one that needs it, Honda does make replacement parts without having to snag the whole top.

omg: was in your price/mileage/vintage needs only 3 months ago. i'd think 'your' car'd be totally easy to find. expand your search distance. be willing to travel a bit to find your car. silvers are a dime a dozen and one of the more popular colors. i had to look hard to avoid that color myself. use craigslist. search on the west coast/FL (plenty of s2ks forsale), plan a weekend trip out of picking up your ride.

as far as < '02 vs > '02, > '02 or BUST, imo. there are parts on the car that age regardless of mileage (think all the bushings, all the rubber lines, etc.). if you ever read "Excellence" - the porsche magazine, in the 'market update' column, they'll ALWAYS tell you to buy best/latest/newest car you can afford.

re: glass vs. plastic window. yesterday morning, i had the sudden urge to drop the top even tho it was only 20 deg outside. granted, i DIDN'T drop the top, but if wanted to, i could've. and if you had a plastic rear window, it woulda cracked into bits. having owned 2 miatas + this convertible, let it be known: plastic windows are the SUCK. the end.

btw, it literally only took me 3 wks of intense search to find the car we wanted. it woulda been only 2 wks, but i had this yellow '02 ROBBED by 2 cash-carrying korean dudes right in front me at a dealership..
