It will go on your record, your insurance may go up.

i was rear ended once in my e46 two years ago and i managed to claim from the other party's insurance. i called my insurance to report the accident at the same time, and they told me that it will go to my record as "not at fault accident", which will not affect my premium at all.

So I went to the body shop that the insurance told me to go to and here are my choices. I could just have the insurance pay the shop and they will try to fix and re-paint the bumper with a lifetime warrenty, if they cant fix the bumper they will replace it with a remanufactured one. Or I can get cash from the insurance company. The thing is that the shop that the insurance recommended gave me a qoute of $550 because they said that it might be possible to repair the bumper without replacing it, while most other shops said it will be almost $700 because they will replace the bumper. If I get cash and go to a shop of my choice and it ends up costing more than $550 then the shop has to call the insurance and explain why it will cost more and then they will send the cash.

So should I just go to the shop the insurance recomends and have them fix it/replace it with a remanufactured bumper, or should I get cash and go to a shop of my choice and deal with getting the insurance to pay more(since its probably going to be more than $550).

Heres some pictures of the damage for reference.

Personally, I say take the insurance money, then just keep your eye out for a pre-painted black bumper.

If just the bumper was damaged then I would do that but the tailight is also pushed in, but it looks like the bumper is keeping it pushed in. I think im gonna try to take off the bumper today and see if the tailight re aligns itself.
