You should be fine with a decent set of snow tires on the car. If you are looking for a beater, depending on how much you want to spend, I might be able to help you with that one since I work at a dealership, and have two others I can take inventory from. When do you plan on moving up here? If it is not until feb or march, you definitely should be fine. If it is next week, you may want to consider the snows right away. I know Jim at TireRack can set you up with a good deal on wheels and snows. I think last time I called it was about 1300 for the total package with Blizzak LM22's which is what a lot of owners reccommend and use on the S.
Thank you so much guys, I REALLY appreciate the advice. You have put my mind very much at ease. I will be moving in the next few weeks and I do not know a soul out there. It is going to be tough.

Johnny-s2k, what dealership do you work at? I work for Universal Underwriters, which is the nations largest and oldest insurance company for auto dealerships.

I plan to buy winter tires and a beater as well. Like ruexp said, I might just need to limp through this winter until I can get moved in and get a life started there.

Again thanks to everyone for the advice and support. The S is going to stay!!

I work for Uptown Lincoln/Mercury, sell new or used, and have free roam at our sister dealerships for chevy, dodge, chrysler and jeep.

Let me know if you need anything, and I will be more than happy to search around for you! Otherwise, if you still have my # from your last post, call me when you get into town. I will be more than happy to show you around town and help get you situated.

By the way, how old are you?

I couldn't help but stick a comment in here just because I used to live up there in the frozen North.

Ask one of these guys to take you out on a frozen lake with your S and practice recovering from skids and slides. I grew up in the cold and never realized how valuable that kind of knowledge is to someone who hasn't.

These guys up there have all been drifting for years long before it became an auto sport. We used to call it "bowling for icehouses".

Anyway it will help you a lot in learning to control your car on ice and snow.

yeah a friend of mine lives on freiss lake which is like 15 mins from my house. they take their cars on the lake all the time when it's frozen enough. if the ice gets thick enough i'd be glad to take you out there and give ya some ice driving practice.
