Default Crossed fingers and cranked her up...

And she started beautifully! Great news since I was expecting the worst.

As you may remember, last Nov. I blew a spark plug in the #1 while cruising down the hwy. So for most of the winter I stored her until more optimal weather came around.

As expected my battery was completely dead so I recharged it for most of yesterday. Today I replaced the plugs (went back to stock) and hoped for the best. She started fine and idled smoothly. The idle was low, however, I'm attributing that to the weak battery- it still needs to fully charge.

After she warmed to three bars, I removed the plugs and coils, and hooked up the compression tester. Starting with #1, here are the results:

#1: 210
#2: 210
#3: 210
#4: 220

I have no idea why #4 is higher. Each one cranked for the same amount of time and I did this in rapid succession so it would not cool too quickly.

210 is not the best but it

I wouldn't worry about 1-2 Ft-lbs. Realistically, your torque wrench is not accurate enough to tell the difference.

I would probably replace the whole coil pack. Just to be safe.

The compression test is not exactly an exact science, some variation between the cylindars is to be expected.

Considering what you went through, a leak-down test would be a good idea.

I'm glad it seems to be OK. (and I'm sorry I have not been able to secure that borescope.)

Yep. While you have the gear handy, I'd do a leakdown. The variance with #4 is not something I'd worry about. If the leakdown is ok, and she feels fine after driving a couple hundred miles or so, I'd feel pretty comfortable that there was no major damage. You could try to repair the boot on the coil pack with one from a used/dead coil, but I'd just replace it.

Don't worry about the scope. Who'd a thought it was so tough to find!

I'll most likely replace the coil- it would be the smart thing to do.

And I agree about the leak down, especially for peace of mind. However, I've read, and read, and read some more on how to do it, but it still makes me nervous.

Is there any plan for a tech day that I could do this with more people (who are a lot smarter than I at this) just in case I screw up?

Also, do you think I'm okay going to the Dragon without the leak down if I cannot get it done by then?

I'm sure Pinyo can do a leak down for you.

However, it's really no complex than a compression test.

I'm sure its not hard, but I just get nervous when I have to hand crank to get the cylinder to TDC (which is correct, right?).

I did a search for a how-to write up and could not find one. Anyone here volunteer a quick write up?

Kallan, I was looking at this procedure on some other sites. This is a little different than what I was thinking. The procedures I've found all talk about using a leakdown tester and an external source of compressed air.

Are you setup for this?
