Default City Public Auction

I'm looking for a winter beater and I found that they have decent looking cars (I don't know about their mechanical condition etc) at the City Public Auction (Chicago) website. I'm seriously considering this and I'm wondering if anyone here has had an experience w/ it or know of someone who has. Thanks.

WHat's the link?

I have never participated, but I might be looking for a winter beater too.

IIRC this is where I originally started looking for a beater.

Be careful...they are all HIGH milers (I carfaxed a good few of them).

someone also mentioned to me that you have to pay a large chunk to get in to see the car - something like $300 - which is then credited back to you if you buy a car- if not - your loss - never went to find out so this might be false.

I've been to the First Federal Public Auto Auction (not with the name), it was at State and 63rd (somewhere in south side). There was no fee or any kind of deposit to join the auction. I think it is a good source for a winter beater. I was there looking for a Civic hatchback that time.
