Chicago land shops

Mike, go check them out for yourself. I HIGHLY recommend them.
If you don't know much about tuning or have ideas that are out there, they of course will guide a build to what is right. No tuning shop with the name AMS has wants to create a build project that blows up a month after it's completed....their reputation is on the line for EVERY project.
I'm sure they also turn away the everday, street-tuned Honda....the other thing they probably don't want to do is tarnish their reputation with working on little kids' fast and furious builds...seeing that they specialize with Mitsus and GTRs.
I don't get stuff worked on from King because I have driven an S2000 home from their shop with rear calipers unbolted from their bracket. I do know of a customer car being used at a track without the customer's consent. I have been told by King to NOT do a K-swap into a car designed with a b-series...it'll be undriveable, too expensive, not meant for the street, and not worth the work to do the swap. Depending on the time of day, customer service can be extra awesome, or really shitty.
I don't get stuff worked on from Profunction because of them not being able to do a proper clutch install on a customer's s2000 AFTER having worked on so many S2000s.
Mike seriously, go check them out AMS for yourself for tuning purposes (especially seeing how close in proximity you are to them)...talk to Justin. Get a feel for their work from talking to them. Definitely take Harry's opinion into consideration...he's probably one of the only UMW members that offers opinion and objectivity through actual experience. With that said, I've had nothing positive things to say about AMS...(except for that they cost more than other tuning shops, but then again, you get what you pay for).

I had my car tuned at AMS. they are good tuners but i feel they are understaffed for how busy they are now and it shows now.
I had a full 3 inch turbo back exhaust made and touge factory and was very impressed with there skill level and customer service!

As I stated, I have PERSONALLY done work with all three of the shops I recommended: GT Motoring, ProFunction, and Quivers, and I had a good experience with all three. Similarly, I can guarantee Andy (Scrapdog) and Jesus (drkphnx) shopped around for tuning their boosted setups, and I know they aren't the only members to work with a variety of shops in the area.

I own an Evo, and used to own a GS-T. I did business with AMS back when very few people knew who they were, and their shop looks more like a shop than a corporate center. Back then when I had my 2g DSM, I was treated like a good customer, Eric knew my name, he gave everyone decent pricing, cool guys all around to hang out with. Fast forward a few years later, I got my hands on an Evo, wanted to drop some cash on mods. I sent AMS a few emails, said I wanted to drop a decent amount of cash (5k was what I had budgeted for engine mods), and was not given the time of day. I would called into the shop, and each time would have a different person on the phone. After talking to a few more local Evo guys who all pretty much said so-so or downright negative things regarding AMS, I decided to take my business elsewhere. They still do sell decent parts at premium prices, if this is the way AMS treats their repeat customers, I don't want anything to do with them.

luder94 knows me and how PICKY I am with my cars and who touches them I do most of my won work and I built my S in my home garage with what little spare time I had
I have it narrowed down to 3 shops and will post my thoughts/feedback when I get the time to finish this. Until then

This is how KMS treated me. Outstanding shop but horrible people skills. Tuners should TUNE what YOU have ; NOT what the tuner wants to tune..
Do you think it's because I'm a senior citizen and they think it may be the last time that they see me?

Profunction has done all my routine maintenance and some mods for me since Ive owned the car. I have not had any complaints. Fair prices, updates while car is in shop and I have always felt like an important customer. Then again, this is the only shop I have been to so its hard for me to give a real review since there is no one to compare to. But I feel good enough with them that I do not have to look else where.
Good Luck.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! As Jeggy said though I am not really looking for tuning or turbo or any performance type mods. I was just thinking regular 15, 20, 30k miles services and all that, fluid changes and oil changes. I love driving cars and I know about them but have never really worked under the hood of a car. The 08 Civic SI I used to own only went to the dealer for work but I feel that their prices are obviously high. , Jeggy, I might be contacting you for some work in the near future Another question for you folks while I have you all. My 07 was purchased with 14,500 miles and has only had oil changes done to it. I know have about 15,300 on it and was wondering what type of service/fluid changes/checks should be done on the car, should I be waiting for 20k miles or 17250 miles to do anything, or should my first service, besides oil changes, be done at 30k miles? Thanks everyone! This has been by far the best car community I have ever been a part of!
