Default Car broken into

(Chicago) Friday morning, I was walking to my car and notice my top wasn't down all the way. It looked like the top was still hooked, but not latched down. At first I thought that I must've not shut my top down all the way when I parked. I get inside my car and my top looks a bit shifted towards the passenger side and I can't get my top to shut all the way. My center console is also wide open and my secret compartment is wide open...

I notice that one of my microfiber towels is missing, but everything else is still in there. My seats are still there. My radio door was shut, I press it and notice my radio is there. Awkward... I check my coin holder and see my school ID and all of my coins still in there (I also keep a razor blade in there for people who try to steal my coins from me without looking what's in there). I pop the trunk and everything is in there too. My trunk was packed too. I made sure my car could start and looked under the hood. Everything seemed fine. I thought this was a really weird break in. My car was ridiculously dirty so I inspected my car. I noticed there was a good amount of dirt off of the passenger door. I'm guessing a slim jim was used to get in. Maybe the dude didn't think I had a radio or a trunk release in the car. My top was not slashed at all. I felt really ambivalent for a while. I ended up not calling the police to check it out. I adjusted my top back to normal and everything seems fine besides the few scratched on my console and slight damage to the lock on it, from what looks like a flathead. I forgot to check if other cars around got broken into also due to having to drop the girlfriend off and head over the school. Anyone get an experience like this? This felt weird. Hopefully someday, I'll catch some dude next time breaking in and put my key between my fingers and puncture a kidney.

that's odd.. I have a story like that.

My buddy at work has a pretty clean 2005 civic, lowered
, rims, and ALOT of littles mods in the car...

He walks out of the club he works at and relized his car window was smashed. He inspected his car only to find out his dirty gym clothes and pennies were stolen..

They left all the quarters in the tray, odd isn't it?

Sorry to read that your car was violated. Good thing you didn't lose much of value!

Check the car out a bit more to make sure nothing is broken. Also, I'd keep less and less in the car from here on out. It's only a matter of time that the would-be thief gets smart to being able to access your trunk and finds out where your head unit and everything else sits.

Also, did you check to see if your gas wasn't stolen?

Pay heed to what I say...these type of incidents are going to be going up. Just like the ITR, S2000 parts are now becoming more valued for other cars, and for cheaper S2K's.

The parts are starting to become worth more than the car...this means trouble for many, many S2000 owners in the near future.

I ended up giving my car a complete detailing and didn't notice anything new. Seat locks will be coming in soon to make me feel better and I have full coverage for insurance in case the car does have something horrible happen to it. I do make sure that if my car does get broken into, I won't have anything that is hard to replace inside it. I only had my school ID in there because it's a bothersome to get out of the school parking lot while going through my pocket to swipe my card. Economic stimulus check came in and it'll be used to towards the alarm. I worked with a guy at S&S in Mundelein a couple years back who now runs a garage for aftermarket electronics in Zion/Wadsworth. Gotta give him a call.

Anyone disengage the trunk release in the center console? I plan on doing that too. And Rich, this happened on the street overnight by Halsted and Lake. I have loc-tite on my antenna too so don't worry about that part much.

The trunk release is easy to do. I used to have it before I shaved the key locks off the car.
