Hey guys,

I recently lost 5th gear in my AP1 and have just bought a low mileage AP2 transmission and I was wondering if any of you have the experience or where with all to help me install the new trans.

My BMW mechanic buddy has no Honda experience and is not really interested in tackling this job.

Anyone out there willing to help? I can drive to you and would be happy to compensate you for your time. I just want to avoid outrageous dealership installation costs. Im located in Indiana.

You will need to swap out the flange that bolts to the driveshaft in order to use the AP2 trans in an AP1.

Just a friendly heads up.

i had the same problem with my fifth gear, at least i think, does it just not want to go into 5th gear?

It just doesnt wanna go in. (thats what she said huh?) What did you do to fix it?

I used 70W 90 in my trans and im thinking of trying a different weight.

70W 90 in your trans? I dont know weights of trans but thats what I put in my diff... I use the honda fluid in the green bottle, the MTF. But there is a service bulletin for this problem...

then I went for a drive and it still wasn't getting in gear, so i got it up to 35-40 and tried jamming it into 5th gear and we heard a grinding noise then it freed up the gear and it has worked ever since, wonderfully i might add.

A few days later I also changed the diff and trans fluid and its been running wonderfully every since!

I've done one transmission swap on the S2000 in the past; trust me, it's not fun!

It's something akin to helping a friend move from one house to another for a 6 pack of beer. Seriously, you may want to just to go over to a shop that has a lift and impact tools.

I don't know what area you're in, in IN, so I can't give you recommendations for shops that do good work.

I switched to Synchromesh when my 5th gear started popping out, and never had a problem since.

I don't live anywhere near Bloomington, but if I did I'd help ya.

RAIN H8R- Im in Bloomington, Indiana attending college at IU.

Ill pick up some Honda MTF and try that as well as the 5th gear TSB.

Hopefully that saves me some time and money! If it works, ill have a 3k mile AP2 transmission for sale.
