Default Anybody here going to NASA event at Putnam Park this weekend?

Just curious if anybody here is going. I've signed up for HPDE group 2 (still very much a novice). To demonstrate how much of a novice I am, I'll ask a novice question. What exactly is racer's tape and where do you get this? Is plain old colored duct tape OK? My last (and first) event provided magnetic numbers, but apparently this NASA event has you number your own car with your own tape.

Old racer: "Did you know racer tape works great on air ducts too!"

True story.

I am fairly certian that racer tape is in fact duct tape. Although I would not want to adhere it to my paint.

Ok a bit late... but for future reference use blue masking tape you can get it at Home Depot, duct tape is a little too sticky and can damage your paint (although unlikely).

What did you think of NASA?

Well, this post was from 2004 - I had fun with NASA at Putnam last year. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to attend the NASA event at Putnam this past weekend. I hope to attend some other NASA events this year. They are well organized and structured.

is it 'NASA' because you strap a JATO to the back of your car?

Technicallly, the 'blue' is painters tape - not real sticky
Then there is Duck/Duc/Duct Tape - typically 7mm thick
Racers Tape - typically 9mm thick, "200 mph tape"

Many weekenders prefer painter's tape as it is easier on the car paint.

Didn't read your post regarding your visit to Putnam Park until today...And I'm sure you went around me about 37 times. I was driving the red S. Was my first time...obviously. Most interesting moment was late on Saturday afternoon when I spun out on corner #2. Oh well.... next time will be better. I may try to go to Gingerman later this year, as I live about 15 miles from there.

This thread was from last year, 2004. I couldn't make it this year although I really wanted to. Last year I think I was the only S there. Were there any others this year? I'm surprised there aren't more S2000 from upper midwest involved in the track scene. This car belongs on a road course. After driving on the track, the S2000 on the street feels awkward and out of place.

You spun in turn 2? Did you go outside or inside? I've found that if you're setup correctly out of 3 you can go through 4 almost full throttle, and hit rev limiter right before braking for 5. I spun in 7 once.

You're right...just noticed the date from the thread...heck, it's only a year old!!
I'm pretty sure it was #2...and was trying to "use all the track." Was also getting a little tired. What was funny was all the grass that we tore up and flew into the car, as I had the top down.
There was one only one other S there, and he was in Group 2, so that's why I thought it might have been you.

I did switch instructors on Sunday, and that made a huge difference. The guy on the first day was a Porsche man; used to lots of HP, and torque in his 911 tubo-charged AWD car. Then, on Sunday, I got a guy who drives little racer that's powered by a motorcycle engine. He was much more comfortable with the way a S operates, so things went much better. Unfortunately, I left around 12:30 p.m. for the long drive back to Michigan, so missed the last 2 sessions on the track.
