I have had very good dealings with State Farm, and my buddies can't find anyone offering the low rates I get. State Farm told my buddy he couldn't get the same rates because I had been with them for so long.

My Camaro just got hit last Friday on the way to a Woodward car show, and State Farm has been extremely quick to get to work. I have been happy with them. Of course, I haven't seen the settlement yet.

This was an insurance cost post, not a cost to own a car post.
You may have worded your original post a little nicer.

Some folks will take offense to be called a dumbass.

Me? I've been called worse

I only know two things about cars:

1) They're expensive to own.
2) They're a pain in the ass to maintain.
but Dave...

how about those poor folks in say.. Lansing, IL ... where they gotta drive out to the burbs to work? and public transpotation is sickeningly difficult?

i just got back from visiting S. Holland/Harvey, etc. the amount of used car lots and hence auto repair shops is quite sickening. (too bad i57 BBQ was not open for lunch yet cuz i don't make it down to 115th street too often)

[QUOTE=OverBooster,Aug 23 2006, 03:09 PM] Insurance companies are "for profit" businesses just like any other business.

generally you'd go into a place that's returning profit to its customers expecting frugal facilities. that's not, however, been my experience. they were all running fat and happy in the 90's thanks to the markets going uphill and very little in claims. the bursting bubble and 9/11 & katrina have definitely taken their toll on cash reserves
I can't recall ever seeing an insurance company whose office wasn't top notch and decked out. Health insurance companies even more so.

I don't see what this has to do with S2000 insurance.

Liability (i.e. minimum coverage) on an older car is dirt cheap. Less than typical monthly gas usage. Someone living in Lansing should seriously be looking for a job in Hammond or Merrilville and not driving to Naperville or Joliet to earn $1/hour more.
