if I buy a used car from a private party sale from a friend, can i have him write a lower price so that i don't have to pay full 6% tax on a car my friend already paid taxes for?? this is for MI..

my other friend did this when he got a toyota corolla, got it for $8500 but the seller filled out $4000 for him.

i got a used bimmer for $22600, (Kbb private party = $27000), how low can i go b4 they'll charge tax on the mkt price??

 

messing around with that is hit or miss. I know a guy who traded a car and put down $600 as the price paid (for an ITR). He's not in jail yet...I usually try to put down near what I really paid for it.
