This is probably completely off-topic.
Came upon a police car today - on the A3 - just south of Hindhead.
Slowed up - as one does and followed it.
It was following another car - both sitting in the outside lane almost permanently.
I followed for ~10 miles- in the inside lane mainly - at speeds fluctuating between 60 and 85.
There was little traffic in the inside lane.
A stupid question. What would have happeneed if I undertook?

in response to mike's OT question

I was on a 30mph stretch of dual carriageway in the inside lane, in the outside lane ahead was a patrol car doing 30mph with nothing in front of it in either lane. as I was doing more than 30 I quickly caught up and slowed to 30 myself, but soon got bored and undertook at about 35mph - instant blues and twos, pulled over, documents, 'is this your car?' etc etc...

The 'use both lanes and merge in turn', followed by the 'merge now!' signs work very well IME.
There's a road in Wyc that needs that then !

2 lanes coming up to traffic lights, and a little way after the right hand lane gradually hashes out down to one lane.

I come through the lights inthe right hand lane, see a space, position myself in it and maintain speed in the car spaced gap I am now in as the lanes narrow together (centre line disappears).

Car behind me accelerates alongside me and sits there. Down to one lane (although barely wide enough for 2 cars), and he's still there about 2mm from my wing mirror in his clapped out piece of shit.

Eventually i buckle and drop back, which he knew i would do to save my paintwork, safe in the knowledge that I hav a nice car and he has a tub of crap.

But honestly, all that hassle to get one car ahead - he broke the law, undertook, nearly caused an accident all for one car ! And I hadn't actually done anything wrong!
