Dump the Focus and buy a Jizz.

Having kids doesn't have to mean no more fun car

just keep it and use taxi or rental when needed, its cheaper when you take all costs into consideration
How many people keep spare cars just in case the main one breaks down. Sort the niggles out on the focus and keep it well maintained, and keep the S. You know it makes sense

Sell the S.

You wont use it as much now with the family. And the thought of the main family car breaking down at a critical stage is not good for bedtime reading.

keep it, every time its good weather you will miss it and start to blame your family for missing out on life
if you think about it your not keeping it for you your doing it to keep your family together, in fact your such a good man you should probably get some mods for it as well as the more you enjoy it the more your doing for the family

Ha! That's brilliant! Are you a Life Coach by any chance!!!

Thanks for all the replies. I can't make up my mind about this at all! I've had two S2000's now and have loved them to bits. With them I have learned to naturally heel and toe when gear changing, I have learned to slide it at will (conditions permitting), they've help teach me to trail break and throttle steer on track and have generally given me more memorable drives than I can count

So why is it so difficult to find another car that can do all this with four doors!!???????

I'm beginning to think that nobody, in recent times, has built the car that we all need/want at some point in our lives i.e, a mid-size, well built, well balanced, well equipped, rear drive saloon (4 door) with reasonable running costs and mpg.

The only models from recent times I can think of on the used car market are:

BMW E46 330i/335i - not special enough IMO because it's still just a 3 series and everyone hates you, 335i high running costs?
Audi S4 (last gen) - bland, thirsty, goes round corners on its wing mirrors, not rear drive.
BMW 530d/535d - ticks most boxes, bit of a barge, everyone hates you.
Alfa Romeo 159 Ti - Flaky, inert handling, FWD understeer, not enough power.
Mazda RX-8 - Cramped interior, you need shares in Opec to feed it's oil consumption.
Merc C-Class C250 CDI - Fine if you wear polo neck sweaters and think watching Cranford is entertaining.

Anyone think other any others to add to the list??

We have 530d sport E39 as family car and S2000 as fun/commuting car.

Rate 530d very highly especialy with DMS chip, 400Lb of tourqe, very different to S but great.

M3 - reasonable running costs??

The VXR8 is probably more reasonable. Less electronic trickery to go wrong - and Luton type servicing costs.

I'd rather own the M3 though.
