The problem with all the Honda alloys on the S2k from 99-06 and possibly later is that they don't laquer the backs of the wheels. So water can get in under the lacquer from round the back of the spokes.

Where there is lacquer coverage, it seems to be a bit erratic. I had all 4 wheels replaced on my MY06 last year. One of them is corroding already.

Be VERY careful what you put on stock alloys, not only are you spraying it on the alloy it is also going into the brake housing which is actually coated.

DO NOT use meguiars wheel brightener it is a professional product and very caustic. I would go with either Meguiars APC diluted 4:1 or P21s if really bad P21s Red.

Please be really careful what you use and rinse, rinse, rinse. especially around the wheel nuts.

I only get the wonder wheels out when I have taken the wheel off the car to get to the brakes. But since it is off I use it all over the wheel front and back. I start by washing with normal washing up liquid, rinse, and then rub in some wonder wheels. After a few minutes I clean again with the washing up liquid and then rinse. I'm not saying this is the correct method, just what I have done. Since the inside of the wheels are not smooth/laquered, I find that I can't get these totally clean and can still see lots of marks where the brake dust has been. I don't think I have any corrosion as such.

Question: If the inner wheel is not laquered could I use a more abrasive sponge like a scourer? or would this remove the paint layer, assuming that it is paint, or is that the bare metal alloy?

Sorry to jump on the bandwagon but I really need to sort my wheels out and didn't want to resort to acidic products!

Just a quick question. It's a lovely day out there and from what I can see you need to order these products on line. Are they sold in the likes of Halfrauds?

It would be nice to get my mitts on them today and give the car a good clean!

As mentioned before though make sure you wash it off thoroughly. If you can, use a jetwash.

I usually get my stuff fron Ron at autogeek. He had a special offer on Oxo wheelbrushes the other week.

The problem with all Honda wheels is the paint is very thin on the sharp edges on the backside of the spokes/hubcap holes. Grit & vigourous brushing will soon go through it.

Took your advice Nick and have bought from Autogeek.

In the meantime I went out and gave the wheels a bloody good wash yesterday. It took me over an hour to really scrub them but now they look brilliant.

The rest of the car still mings - it started raining after i'd finished the wheels!
