Default Wobbly knob anyone?

Two weeks and 500 miles into the S experience (sadly no VTEC yet), and I've noticed that the gearlever/knob seems to be exceptionally wobbly when driving along in top gear on bumpy road. Is this normal?

It's certainly VERY noticable and much more pronounced than any other car I can remember. The car shifts fine and there are no other untoward effects, holding the knob, calms things down a lot.

Any comments?

Mark

Is it just your knob that rattles or the whole shaft?

Serious question.

My knob wobbles also. It does seem to be a trait of the S and has been discussed before on this board and American forum.

Mine wobbled from day one, remember more than a couple of shakes then your a ******

It should vibrate a little - almost with a life of it's own - but not wobble. Is there lateral movement ? If so tighten your nuts.

Wobbles all the time. Noticed it from day one (that was 2 days ago ) . Don't think it's serious though.

I think the movement is quite normal, if you enjoy holding it, then feel free

the whole thing shakes and vibrates in all gears but no untoward effects.......I assume it's because the linkage is very direct to the 'box

The only thing is my wedding ring vibrates against the knob itself (earlier '01 knob) it has scratched it but.....I am getting one of Rick's knobs as soon as I get round to it

They all do it.

With Rwd cars, your knob sticks out of the box, which is rubber mounted (with the engine) to the bodyshell. On bumps, the whole lot bounces around.

If you're used to FWD, the lever is usually bolted to the floor, with rods or cables to the box. They move around much less noticeably.
BTW- It is better to look out of the windscreen when driving, and not to stare at your knob!

Im sure Ive read in a few places, (TVR Handbook and elsewhere) that you shouldnt hold your knob whilst in gear and driving, as it prematurely wears out your gear linkage or selector.

Anybody else back this up.??

I have heard if you continually rest your hand on your knob it puts pressure on the internals and causes premature wear

I try and keep my hand of my knob in between changes
