The wobbles
Dear all,
My02 with 18" wheels wobbles, and I cant get to the bottom of it.
When I accelerate from about 40mph I get a wobble which gradually gets worse up to about 60mph, it gets slightly better after that then starts again at about the 70-75mph mark.
Now I did a few things to see if I could sort it out.
I checked the tyre pressures both at 30psi and same problem.
I then took to tyre spot to get the rear wheels balanced, upon inspection they said I needed four new tyres as the tyre wear was out on three wheels. (Now I know that the standard toe on the back wheels is set slighly in over so would expect wear on the inside, which I had). The next day I got two new rear tyres fitted and balanced but I still had the same problem.
CAN ANYBODY HELP, PLEASE!!
Thanks
And happy New Year.

Do you need spigot rings with 18" wheels?
Even if the wheels are balanced & the type pressures are right, etc, you would still get wobbles if you need spigot rings and are running without them.

Happy new year to you too.
how long you had the 18's on has it only just started.
when did you have the geo checked last, a differance in settings between the rear wheels may give you a wobble.
just an idea for you.
hope you get it sorted.

Well remembered about the TVR, I went off them, mt pal at work got one and he's never had his hand out of his pocket.
What did you do with the spoon N1 then?

The wobble could well be from the front wheels/tyres too and as they suggested 4 new tires and you only fitted 2 rears, perhaps this isthe likely culprit!
As said spigot rings (lack of) could cause this, or loose wheel nut(s)!

All I have had the wheels on for over 2 years with no problems until now, dont need spacers and I have the spigot rings on. Its only rally started happening over the last 4 to 6 weeks. Have been using a different car so just got around to sorting it now. Got the geo set up when I got the wheels on.
Do you think I should get two front tyres replaced as well?
Think I will get the geo set up as well.

It sure sounds wheel/tyre related as it happens 40ish then 75+ and would probably come back at 160, have you looked at the fronts to see if there is any damage to the tyres, ie a bulge in the inner sidewall.?
