Wiring up new door cards
Hi,
I have a 1999 S2000 with 2-way speakers in the doors.
I have now purchased door cards with built-in tweeters.
How do I connect them up ?
Do I need a crossover ? If so, does it need to be a passive or active one ?
Any links to a suitable (cheapish) one ?
All opinions welcome.
Thanks
Bharat

I'd think about junking the OEM and replacing with a components set like the Focal 16.5cm set that comes with crossovers.
I'm not sure how the OEM wire up, I just remember being a bit confused that the tweeters had 4 Ohms written on them which suggests the only way they can be wired up would be in parallel to make the head unit see 2 Ohms - Don't the tweeters also have a built in high-pass filter (a small capacitor) or am I getting confused with the ones that came out my Golf ?

If you buy new components you will get a (passive) crossover with them, which can be mounted inside the doors.
You use the existing wiring. Plug the +/- wires into the input of the crossover, which then "splits" the signal via two outputs, one for the woofer and the other for the tweeter. You need a short length of speaker cable to do this.
That's the simplest solution.
Something like these will do very well: http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-spr-60c
These are a cheaper option, and you can see how the crossovers connect up quite clearly in the photo: http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-spg-17cs
If you go "Active", you need a 4 channel amplifier and a head unit with the correct outputs/built in in crossover and you will need to run new cable through to the doors.
(FWIW OEM on MY02+ had a crossover built into the OEM woofer).

Do these go straight in without spacers?
Cheers,
