Winter wheels and tyre options
First post so go easy. just picked up my car last week and as it will be my daily driver which will include winter i was wondering what my options were for a spare set of wheels for the winter to get winter tyres fitted. I've had a look on e-bay but all the OEM wheels available seem to be the 16" version and i'm not sure of the availability of 16" winter tyres (or sizes). i've also seen lots of 17" wheels listed for the s2000 but they all seem to be the same width, is it ok to run with 7" wide wheels at the back as well as front. Ive a set of civic EP3 alloys in the shed if it is.

Definitely cheaper for 16s than 17s, whatever the tyre.
If you are going to get a set of winters then buying at the height of summer is quite wise. Buying as a precautionary rather than typical British reactionary measure will save quite a bit.
However, I currently have a set of "winters" which have Uniroyal Rainsports, wet weather tyres. I still reckon the snowfall we do get is too few and far between to justify the rather large premium winter tyres command, and that it's more likely to be just raining a lot.
Having said that though my car isn't a daily driver and if yours is, then it's good peace of mind.
The web at the moment is showing front 16s around the £100-£120 and rears around £130-£150. Shop around!

Although 16in is the easyier and cheapest option as its not easy to get 17in winters, ask your insurence company first as some members have found insurers look at putting different size wheels on to be a mod. Ludicrus as you are making the car safer!

Correct me if I am wrong but is the design life of car tyres only 5 years from manufacture, they all have a date on somewhere, and i seem to remember WIM commenting on the age 6 years of 2 tyres i replaced, they were beginging to perish badly especially in the remaining tread grooves.

i've got a pair of accord 16" alloys for this purpose. since i only struggle with the rear end i've just gone for 2. as i found out last weekend though, you need to make sure the center hub will fit the new wheel. on mine, i cant swap tyres front<>rear as the rears physically wont fit the front hub. i just hope these accord alloys will fit!
price wise, it seems c.£75/ea is the going rate for branded rubber. my local tyre place reackons september-october time is when i should look at buying.
too late and theres no stock, to early and their not available as they only make 'em at certain times of the year.
