No issue what so ever fitting 225 to an OEM 17" front. I have that width of Summer tyre on.
And I doubt an extra couple of centimetres at the front is going to make the car wayward. If people in their 245 all round shod family cars can survive a winter with wide summer tyres I reckon any proper rubber will feel sure footed.

I have Continental WinterContacts on my 16's. TS810's, very good tyre and you learn that they aren't that grippy in warmer conditions. The cold is where they come alive, and now with the weather turning pretty sour and cold, at last they are becoming worth buying them.
The newer conti's win all the awards this year, they have outstanding grip. Next winter, the ts830's will be my purchase for my rear winter tyres

I read an interesting note on the AA web site regarding the wet weather performance indicators that they have on tyres these days - the Conti's have a rating of C, compared to Bridgestone Blizzack's E - which means in testing they stopped a car at 50mph 2 car lengths sooner!! Useful to understand what those ratings mean when deciding what you want to pay for winter tyres!

I had some moments last winter that I don't want to have this winter so the tyres were a must.

I'm also looking at putting TS850s on a set of 16s that I picked up this afternoon. The wheels are still in their original diamond cut finish, but they are very corroded, especially the two rears. So my plan is to do a home refurbishment on them and then get the TS850s fitted. Can't decide whether to keep them silver or go anthracite though.

The closest I could find at event tyres:
2 x 215/45R17 91V HANKOOK W310 I*CEPT EVO XL @ £100.64 per tyre
2 x 235/45R17 97H HANKOOK W310 I*CEPT EVO XL @ £126.50 per tyre
They seem to come well reviewed so I booked them for fitting end of November

I have a full set of ts830's on some 16's, love the look of the car on the 16's and it's definitely more comfortable.

I was a bit thrifty when it came to the tyres, got the four all with 6mm plus tread from eBay as part worms for the price of one new one.
I'll try get a pic up of the wheels.
