Default winter prices

Hi Guys and girls

Been lurking on here for ages but finally decided to sign up, im currently looking at the market for my first s2000, im looking for an early model for around 4500 - 5000. its just going to be a weekend car plus a few visits to brands hatch every year.

Now my question is, do these cars actually get cheaper over the winter months or is it just a myth. Am i best off waiting a few months or if the right one comes long now just go for it?

Thanks

Hi ,and welcome. Yes they do, but not by massive amounts tbh, owners also know they won't get as much for them so there's less supply to balance the low demand. Most owners can sit on theirs for a winter and aren't desperate to sell.

The other thing is that the S2000 market is changing in that their price point is starting to fall into the zone of a lot of potential owners, so get to know the market, search classifieds daily and be ready to snap up that deal when you see one !

https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/985...or-quick-sale/

Then flog the hardtop and fitting kit. £500 for a quick sale brings it into budget.

As a starting point I think razorsharp's one Gary's linked to above is a pretty good deal - nice touches like genuine 4 piece floor mats, updated interior and K&N FIPK - all things you'll end up wishing you'd bought in the first place.

Good luck with finding the right car for you - took me about 5 months, by the end of it my wife had started to ignore me any time I opened my mouth as she knew it would be about a car I'd seen

The other benefit I found from buying off FS boards on here is that you can search the post history of the seller to find any issues they had.

In the olden days we used to have to ask to see the owners Haynes manual and see which pages were grubby and oily.

At that sort of budget, there will be very little price fluctuation through the year.

The numbers have certainly dwindled in comparison from the previous 2 years' ad numbers on PH where they averaged around 120 at peak and dipped to the 50s. This year if I recall correctly the high was around 90 and it's only going to shrink as winter draws near - 60 ads at present.

You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out where most of them have ended up.

Advertised prices don't neceesarily come down at this time of year, but in about a month you will see a few cars that have been for sale for a long time. These sellers can sometimes be prepared to take a low offer.

In my experience, having cash sitting round for a very quick purchase from end November - January will find you a good bargain.

It did for me, and I still have the car 10 years later
