Winter prices
Im thinking of waiting until winter to buy an S now as living in London i could probably go without a car for a few months. I figure it would be easier to sell my car now and go car-less for a bit than try and sell mine in the winter.
I just wondered how much the prices will drop between now and then. Over past years how much have they dropped? Has anyone else done this and snagged a bargain?

Doubt you'll see much of a drop on private sales IMO, if you time it right you can snaffle up dealer stock nowish as they try to offload their 07 plates. Otherwise take a look at the dealers towards the end of sept (close to closing time on a sunday nearest the end of the month is always a GREAT time to buy a car )

Without a doubt the best way to get a bargain car, if you can do it, is to sell your car first and keep the cash ready. A bargain will turn up soon enough, you just need to move quickly to get it.
The trick is not to get too impatient. Keep an eye on Pistonheads, S2ki, autotrader and ebay.
Spend a few days studying prices, and drive a few now so you know how a good one drives.
I did this with my S2000 and my recently purchased ATR which I bought from a Honda dealer (with full warranty) for less than private sales are getting.
Winter is traditionally better for bargains as the cars tend not to get much interest in the winter and sellers get desperate.

Cheers guys. Sounds about right i guess bassoctopus. I was thinking about that quiet month before christmas that people might be desperate to sell.
I know i will have the car for a while so owning it winter first shouldnt bother me to much. I think!

Jan/Feb seems to be the worst time to sell. No-one's got any money, weather is normally shocking.
Having said that I got mine in November and it was just someone who wanted to shift the car quickly.
My recent ATR purchase was a small Honda main dealer who didn't realise how sought after lowish mileage ATRs have become. I bought the car within 3 hours of it going on autotrader, I had the cash waiting and was able to give him a deposit over the phone. The sales guy told me after I'd bought the car that someone had come in to look at it the next day and after being told it was sold, tried to gazump me and offer the dealer more than I'd agreed.
Sometimes it's just luck and being in the right place at the right time, but having the cash ready will always put you in a strong position.
