Default Winding in those rear calipers

I'm sure mine are too stiff. I've got the proper tool, but can't turn it by hand and end up using a big adjustable spanner to get enough force.

Thing is, they've always been like that since I've had the car, and the rear brakes work fine. I think I've changed them four times now. So they can't be that seized.

However yesterday I fitted new rear pads and disks, and went for a 15 minute drive in the rain, after which the rears felt very hot, and much hotter than the fronts. So I'm worried now this has become a problem.

I don't need this a week and a bit before the Ring trip.

Any thoughts?

I had to use a chissel to turn mine .. stiff as hell to begin with, but then got easier.

Have you pumped the handbrake to take up the slack ?

Errr, no. Surely the handbrake would work the other way - i.e. the cable will be too loose, and so wouldn't pull on the brakes.

My pistons are quite easy to wind back in using the flat section of the hook you get in the tool kit.

They were quite a bit stiffer on my old MY00 but would loosen up as i screwed them back in to the point where they were easy to move and felt quite free.

Mine were very difficult to turn as well - file & spanner turning clock-wise.

Thanks. They do get easier as you get further.

Hopefully the other issue is just not getting the cross on the caliper lined up with the notches on the pad. I've had that before.

Dave, you are taking the lid off the brake fluid resevoir (or whatever it's called) aren't you?

You'd think so wouldn't you?

To be honest I don't bother with that as I've never found it makes a difference. I just check the level afterwards, which in all the excitement I might have forgotten to do...

Hmmmm. I have that horrible "I've done something stupid" feeling.
