Wind noise with hardtop
Hello!
I'm looking at buying an S2000 and have only had a chance to test drive a soft top. I was wondering what difference the hardtop makes to wind noise?
I don't have a problem with the level of noise on the soft top but I guess it could get a bit tiring on a four hour motorway drive!
Thanks,
Sam.

Currently drive a Clio 172 which is pretty damn noisy, Renault get the weight down by removing most of the sound damping material.
I was just surprised at the amount of wind noise on the soft top. Stupid really as a bit of material can't really complete with a bit of tin when it comes to deflecting wind can it!
Anyhoo, for the extra grand I think it could make the car much more pleasant for long distance motorway drives. More secure too.
Currently waiting for an insurance quote, nice.

I test drove the hard top car and loved it, there was less wind noise than I expected. However there is less wind noise when I have roof down than some other convertables I've driven.
Plus once you take the top off, it's difficult to see it going back on until the winter.
IMO, For the price difference, go for the GT.

I find that the engine sounds much better with the hard top ON, as it seems to reverberate around the cabin better.
In theory you should hear it better when topless, but with the hood down the buffeting reduces the fine nuances of sliproad specials, and with the fabric hood up, the thing rattles away and still generates a lot of noise from the wind.
One of the things (few things) I am looking forward to in winter is getting some good vtecing in with the hard top on before it gets too wet and snowy to enjoy it.

Makes the bonnet look even longer with the hardtop on, and the reverberation when changing gear sounds great.
Makes up for the fact that conditions don't always allow VTEC and 9,000 RPM gear changes when its pelting it down with rain.
Extra rear visibility from the big rear window in nice as well
