This thread makes very interesting reading as I'll be looking for a nice example in the coming weeks (or months depending how long it takes!).

I've decided I'd really like an early (99-01) Silverstone with the red seats\door inserts and have an absolutely maximum budget of 8k to spend - thing is, prices seem to be all over the place at the moment and that makes me nervous!

I've spoken to some traders who have 02\52 cars with under 60k on the clock and they're willing to take cash offers of around 7.5k which will include a warranty. A quick look on Autotrader and Pistonheads shows there are private cars on W and X plates asking for 8>9.5k!!! What's going on????

Thing is, I really dont want to get my fingers burnt (price wise) so until prices settle\sort themselves out I might 'wait in the the wings' until a really good privately owned example comes along at the right price!

prices have dropped so much in the last 6months but a lot of people have not kept up with the trends.

Have a look in the FS section on this site, you need this one and its 2-3 years newer than you were thinking of.

If only it were Silverstone silver with a black dash!!!

Hopefully prices will sort themselves out in the new year.... I'd much rather buy privately (from an enthusiast) than use a dealer.... and normally this is cheaper too but prices at the moment aren't reflecting this!!!

Spanners,

Have a look at this ad it might be what you are looking for, it was one that was on my list but by the time I got the email back to a list of questions I had sent I already had a deposit down on an other car:-

Thanks for the link! Reasonably local but the mileage is a little too high for me.... still, it just goes to show just how prices are all over the place at the moment.

Think I'm might just sit tight for the next few months and see what happens to prices heading up to Easter!!

Normally the price of these type of cars increase as you come into spring/summer time however who knows what will happen this year with the shape of the economy.

It would be worth having a look at a few that are local to you to set the benchmark of what you will get for your money.
