these say they are fibreglass? price is in AUS dollars too (about double the GBP price if i remember)

Carbon fibre is expensive because the materials are quite expensive (woven fibers that need knitted a bit like a jumper) and then layed by hand layer at a time with epoxys (like glue) which takes a lot of time to make the thick components and requires some degree of skill and quite a lot of time and manual effort.

Development time and relatively small target market to spread the cost of such time across bump the price up - if the CAI could be used on Ford Fiesta then I'm sure the price would come down! Having said that, Muz bought the design off Aus and I bet he didn't pay much!

My brother does fibe glass. he buys the klits from halfords and makes some pretty neat stuff, bonnets etc. If i can get the design i'll get him to have a go at making one then everyone else could take a mould from there...

Develop the tooling / moulds etc and make one yourself. let us know how much it costs, Work out how many you reckon you could sell, then price it for the market, then how many you would have to sell to make a return.

A lot of the price is from the labour - it's a labour intensive job. The problem with mass production is the tooling costs - a few people looked into it, and the number didn't add up. The tooling costs far too much to spread the cost over the likely number of intakes you'd sell.
