why hide your licence plate number in posted pictures?

Personally I don't worry about it. Ok, so I live on an island where the idea to commit car theft is as clever as developing a Helicopter Ejector Seat. I do, of course, honour the fact that many don't want their numbers divulged so on the wall planners and (future) calendars, it's a laborious task removing them all!

Another reason some people blank their plate is that they don't want evidence of their car having been used on a track, with all the insurance and warranty implications that might have.

Whatever, I'm sure it's got nothing to do with claims on this board that so and so was racing another car, speeding at 125(k!)ph, etc and making it pretty easy for the old bill to follow these things up from looking at this site??
As for me, I don't mind - no speed cameras, no speed limits, no car crime and only 13 other S2000s on the Island
