why hide your licence plate number in posted pictures?
okay, sorry if this is common knowledge,
but after a while on these boards, I still do not know why it is recommended to blank out your licence plate from posted pictures?
I have searched, but found nothing...
anyone want to enlighten me?
thanks.

To prevent people cloning the reg. to evade speeding / parking fine prosecution. To prevent people being able to use a registration to establish owners address, and steal car.
Any other reasons ?

If it is a good enough match - easier to find here though isnt it
My previous plate was cloned on a stolen silverstone S2k - brought me all sorts of trouble, but the police got onto it quickly and sorted it

Doesn't particularly bother me; I have blanked some regs and shown others.
If anyone cloned my car I'd pay money to find them and I could bring them a whole lot more trouble than the police could.
As for coming to my house to steal it - well, don't bring a knife to a gunfight sonny.
At the end of the day, cloning can only harm you so much. For example, speeding. They may have another silver S2000 on camera wearing my reg (pretty damn unlikely) but I will be able to prove I wasn't in the area.
Oh well, nothing like tempting fate.

I tend not to worry about it too much particularly as I have a very distinctive personal plate.
Very professional criminals who are setting up jobs well away from home, will make several reccy visits at the planning stage to the town where they're pulling the job.Whilst there, they'll usually clock the reg no of a local car of the same type, year, and colour of the one they intend to eventually use. When they pull the job, it will be in a car with a set of plates made up for that reg no.
The idea being if any suspicious cops check out their reg no on the radio via PNC, it comes back as registered locally, and is less likely to warrant a pull than one from out of town. They tend to choose grey/beige, nondescript cars anyway, less likely to draw attention. The S isn't an ideal armed blaggers motor!
