why did Honda put these here...

AJ...I believe Joeh is referring to the plastic pieces that extend the line of rear wheel arch plastic in front of the wheels, just like the front arches. They would be just aft of the strakes in your picture.
I believe they are there for a similar reason as the fronts.
Alistair - Not sure about the facelift models...this was discussed a couple of months ago, so it may appear by having a search, which may answer your question quicker than waiting for someone in the know to come along

My 06 has them, as do all the range.
They get busted if you drive over debris, kerbs, have repairs etc so then get removed I suppose.
I have trimmed the fronts as my car is lowered, now they don't scrape speed humps.
The rears are exactly the same.
You dont want air pressure in the wheel arch really as it wont help lift.

May I direct your attention to the fact that JDM's did not have these factory fitted.
I would imagine that this was due to the 112 mph manufactures top speed limit.
What I am inferring is that these components will be come exponentially more effective as the speed increases.
This is inline with a basic aerodynamic formula where total drag is directly proportional to Velocity Squared.
Conclusion is that if your gunna do mega speeds these are effective.
In my opinion 'performance' gains may be recordable in regard to specific fuel consumption comparisons outside of the usual road legal speed limits.
Leave em of they look naff !

Intriguing!
I saw this and thought - I've not got them?!?
And I haven't! Had a look at the car and there are bolt holes on the under tray that look like they may hold them (though it's dark I can't see too well).
Then referred to the S2000 MY04> brochure - no sign of them there either?
Anyone else MY04> not got them? Were they removed when the front bumper was redesigned and bigger wheels added?
For what it's worth I agree with the sentiment here - unless you have a wind tunnel best not to play with the aero on a car like this. Hence why if I should have them - I'm going to get them!!!

Owen has a set he doesn't want. Ask him if he wants to sell.
I thought that kerb damage might have been the reason they weren't there.
Razzele - you've probably hit the nail on the head. I was confused as to why they weren't in the photo shoot for the S2000 brochure - I'm guessing that it was done in Japan - the weather's nicer there!
Next question (assuming Owen has refitted his) - anyone got any spares?!?

I don't think JDM cars got the strakes as standard until the Type S.
There was a discussion about them not too long ago:

Aren't you a comedian Fistral G
Well I'm glad I bought this topic up for the people that didn't know and were interested about this, including me. We've got some good scientific aerodynamics in this thread
