We had a car damaged in a Tesco's car park by a Tesco's trolley blown in a high wind. The initial reaction was "Look at the At owners risk signs mate - not our problem" but a letter from my solicitor brought a full repair, arranged and paid for by Tesco's. In fact it seemed Tesco's have a process and arrangements in place to effect rapid car repairs - odd if the "at owners risk" signs were meaningful.
I am sure one of the lawyers here could shed some light on this.

Everything above is spot on. It's usually worth writing a letter and seeing what response you get, no matter what the sign might say. In my experience, most companies rely on people taking the sign at face value and thinking it not worth complaining, irrespective of whether the attempt to exclude liability if legally valid or not.
