Losing about 40 miles to a tank using peasant fuel.
Warning: schoolboy maths ...

Tank capacity is 13.2USG=11UKG.
Assuming around 27mpg (it seems to be reasonable from what I see on here and my own experience)

11 * 27 = 297 miles on one tank.

If we say super gives another 40miles

11 * mpg = 297+40 miles on one tank
so our new mpg is 30.

This is an mpg improvement of over 10%.
I have no idea if this is true, as I haven't filled up with super. Next tank I will and see.
However if it's true, then running on the expensive stuff is cheaper.

Starting to like the sound of this! Going to try the Super over the weekend. How much is a full tank?

Tank is 50 litres as hinted at in simonix' post.

Sorry I meant rough price

For me, £1.33 * 50 = £66.50 for super, as opposed to £1.29 * 50 = £64.50. Only two quid!

Put the nozzle in the petrol cap opening, squeeze the triger and stop when the tank is full, read the total on the pump and I think you will have an accurate readout of the cost.

No, was only after a rough estimate really as I'm currently typing and not actually at the pump

Cheers for the replies lovegroova and Andy

I use super (Ultimate) as the discount is 6p a litre rather than the 3p discount on 95RON

Unfortunately will have to use my car daily as of october so was pondering this very question. I think I'll have to fill up with both and do the maths. Also drive slower!

I have 09 and as a treat, she has her just got her first tank of super ul. (with tesco 5p off, the same price as regular without the 5 p off) 46lt is £59.75

having driven only 20+ miles, and in the daily commute, the low rev response is definitely better when driving lazily and she doesn't protest when acceleraating in the low rev band.

I haven't had the chance to give her much of a thrashing yet and the MPG is moot anyway.

This may sound a silly question but, if MPG is moot and so persumably cost, why have you been filling up with 95RON when £2.50 extra per tank buys you 99RON, and buckets more fun, not to mention extra miles per tank that will actually save you money?

To be truthful, I hadn't really thought about it until I saw this thread and just co-incidentally had bought the expensive stuff.

So in about 2-3 weeks time when I do the sums on the mpg, I will be able to decide whether there is an improvement in mpg or not and if the extra expense in justified.

Whlst the MPG is moot, the price per litre isn't.

If you're going to be objective you need to not change your driving style,
Maths (as I've found it) 50L tank that is 13Gal say you go from 28 to 30MPG thats 2 more miles per gallon = 26 miles, roughly 4L at £1.30L is £5.20 so without the 5p off you are £2.70 up, with the 5p off £5.70 up using two 5p off voucher (that Tesco allow) thats £7.70 up.
Obviously ball park numbers as I can't remember the exact numbers, but it dosn't take much to give you a good return.
