I use 98 octane fuel on and island that is limited to 35mph - 250 - 280 miles per tank (dependent on driving style during that period)
When i did use 95 octane a long time ago - 180 - 210 miles per tank
I found that under spirited driving was when the most fuel was used (funnily enough!). Effectively the ECU had to moderate the fuel / air mix for 95 to the point that it used up significantly more fuel to provide the same performance.
I have a 2006 model.
I also noticed a slight performance decrease when using 95 octane. Specifically around the vtec engagement and 3k rpm aswell in the rev range, but also in just general driving.
I have never and will never put 95 in my car again. I have noticed a slight difference between 97 and 98 octane aswell.

Warning: schoolboy maths ...
Tank capacity is 13.2USG=11UKG.
Assuming around 27mpg (it seems to be reasonable from what I see on here and my own experience)
11 * 27 = 297 miles on one tank.
If we say super gives another 40miles
11 * mpg = 297+40 miles on one tank
so our new mpg is 30.
This is an mpg improvement of over 10%.
I have no idea if this is true, as I haven't filled up with super. Next tank I will and see.
However if it's true, then running on the expensive stuff is cheaper.

On average super is about 10p a litre more than regular. So a whole tankful is equivalent of an extra £5 to fill. So if we say you get even 20miles extra to a tank, that still ends up paying for the extra £5 you put in. any more than 20 miles extra per tank, and you're saving money!!

Starting to like the sound of this! Going to try the Super over the weekend. How much is a full tank?

Even better if you use Tesco 99 RON, it's usually the cheapest super around and if you've got a couple of 5p off coupons better still, I belive you can use two together (mayby three).

Put the nozzle in the petrol cap opening, squeeze the triger and stop when the tank is full, read the total on the pump and I think you will have an accurate readout of the cost.
Or if you want to know how much 50L will cost multiply the cost per litre by 50 and you have your answer, now would you like to borrow a calculator?
