Who uses unleaded

There of course comes a point where due to the limitations of the engine (in a form with any road manners at least!) mean that the higher octane will stop making a difference.
When I filled up with 102 Octane fuel on the German autobahns once my butt dyno said the car felt more responsive, but it may in fact have just been in my little mind.
I have noticed a difference in MPG between 98/99 and the once or twice I've been condemned to using 95!

Mine is a UK MY99 and in the fuel flap it says you can use 95ron and "the engine will adjust to suit. You may however notice a reduction in power"
If I can't afford super, I use normal. I'll be honest, I don't notice the difference. (and yes that's even after an ECU reset).

I know the standard ecu adjusts the ignition timing based on the type of fuels octane level as i can clearly see that mine displays +5 on the scan gauge. Im not sure whether the ECU uses that figure as well when its not in closed loop mode during full throttle etc. We would need someone whos abit more clued up to let us know.
One thing i do know is when i had my old integra type r it ran like a dog on 95ron fuel. It was a jap import so super was recommended but in devon i struggled to find super unleaded and when i put normal unleaded in the car really didnt like it.

Now I only use super unleaded but I noticed in the petrol flap that it says 95-98 so just wondered how safe it is to run on normal long term on a standard car with a Decatur and exhaust
And yes I have tested it and it is a fact.

I normally use 99 but today on the m6 there was a 14p difference between that and 95 so I used enough to get me home. 14p! WTF. the 95 was the cheapest I've had in ages at 129.9 too.

If you run on 95 you will adjust your right foot to compensate for lower power, but when I did a comparison I kept my foot in check and got 20 less miles from 95 from the tank than I did 98, if you do boot it to compensate the difference will be greater.
If I'm going to be doing a long motorway drive I'll mayby use 95 and drive like a granny if I'm not in a hurry.
And I don't have any "data" or graphs etc. as I'm not that sad (Thats for AE). I just put it in and pound it, sod the cost.
