Default Who uses unleaded

Now I only use super unleaded but I noticed in the petrol flap that it says 95-98 so just wondered how safe it is to run on normal long term on a standard car with a Decatur and exhaust

post 2001 vehicles sold in the UK had, by law, to be able to run on standard 95RON fuel. Pre-2001 cars weren't obliged. You'll therefore see on early cars the fuel flap states to run on 98.

This is because it's the octane rating that the ECU has been mapped to use.

A post-date cars ecu will be expecting "standard" fuel - so it'll be fine to run on this. You MAY notice a small improvement using higher octane but you don't need to worry about putting standard in.

in this instance, the decat and exhaust doesn't really sway things I don't think.

No point it's uneconomical as you get fewer miles per gallon on unleaded than you get on super, enough to make super more cost effective.
And yes I have tested it and it is a fact.

That's interesting. Super is about 4% more expensive than regular. So I get around 27/30mpg. If I run on super and I get 28/31 mpg, it would just break even. So I need to get more mpg than that for it to be worthwhile.
Anyone got any data?

If you want to get better economy change your driving style - mine will get whatever i can be bothered to put in it, usually 95 given the current prices.

Yes, I completely agree. I was just curious if it was possible to get better fuel economy whilst maintaining the same driving style.

I use super 9 times out of 10. If I have to resort to 95ron then I only fill it a little to get me to a garage that does super.

vpower or gtfo, why would you want the car to perform at anything less than its best ?
