Waiting for 2002 model.. am told it will be ready in March 02..

Insurance difference was quite major when I told them I was putting a thatcham alarm on and keeping it locked up in a garage.

Picking it up from Belgium.. should be nicely warmed up by the time I reach home (South Bucks)

picking it up from dover - that way i get to drive back up the M20
Andy - sorry if I am teaching you to suck eggs, but go easy on the motorway - do not exceeed 6000rpm for the 1st 600 miles, and try to vary the rev's whilst on the motorway - don't just cruise at a constant speed in a single gear. And once the car is safely home, check the oil level everytime you put fuel in.

This is sound advice... a friend of mine managed to blow his lovely new imported Scooby WRX a couple of years back.. The better you treat your new car in the early days, the better it will treat you as it ages.. sound familiar?

"check the oil level everytime you put fuel in"

Is the oil thing related to running the engine in or is this a common duty for the life of the car?

I only check my current car every 2 months.

Often.

lol, I'm only just out of the habit of checking the oil every night Quite scary the amount of oil you can get through in just one day in some cases (I always check after the car has been stood for an hour or so to be sure it is a consistent reading) Touch wood it is practically stopped with the oil burn now, its got through about 200ml in 2 weeks.

I've normally done a lights and levels test each time I wash the cars off, normally every week or two... this board has made me a little worried about the S2000 though

When the car is new, it is wise to check the oil more frequently - every time you put fuel in is a good idea. It depends a great deal on the type of car/engine you have.. and how you've been driving it

It's worth everyone who hasn't seen it reading this thread!

http://www.s2000online.com/forums/showthre...oil+consumption

Why does it burn so much oil initially?

Is it to do with the fact that this is a revolutionary engine? The block is made from a mixture of aluminium and fibre. I remember someone posting that because of the porous nature of the new block the burned oil and residues are gradually filling up these minute holes and that once this process is complete the consumption ceases.

He sounded like he knew what he was talking about as I recall..

I don't!!!
