I'd bet it's condensation.

My FTO would do it a lot. Every year on the first proper cold morning of Autumn the club forum would have a few "white smoke from the exhaust" posts.

OK, a quick update for you all. I've just got back from my local Honda dealer. Their Chief Technician had a look at it for me and said it smokes a lot! It is oil smoke, apparently synthetic oils burn grey/white and not blue, and they are planning to dismantle the engine next week to work out what's wrong.

The first guesses are valve guide seals or oil scraper ring. Either way, I'm glad I got a Honda warranty, it should all be taken care of, which is a huge relief cos this is starting to sound really expensive

I'll keep you updated.

Good luck mate, I was about to suggest valve stem seal.
For those without a waranty - let it smoke and idle for a few minutes.
Then, pull the spark plugs out and see which is oily.

It may well be the head gasket (cheapest fix of the three).
Oil may have a leak path across oil gallery to cylinder bore without crossing into water jackets.

Hmmm, must have been quite excessive then.

Good news on the warranty too - let them crack on

Ive never heard of head gasket problems on an s2000 or valve seals these arent Rover K series lumps the f20cis designed with revving and beating in mind..

Just be careful mate at the moment they will tell you anything just to get money out of you. Performance specialist would be my choice not a dealer.

I'd be careful of letting them pull the engine apart

If they don't find anything you will still be billed for dismantling and reassembly

My advice would be to get a second and third opinion
