I believe the thread you're looking for is 1/4-20 UNC there a couple of places in the US that might have what you are looking for http://www.mcmaster.com/ - go down to the "Fastening and Sealing" section and you'll find a link to thumscrews in the 2nd row.

The problem I think you'll find in getting one of these, is that bolt threads on tripods and most camera supports are kept deliberately short because of the danger of screwing the thing right through the base plate of the camera, in which case it's a write off! I doubt a camera shop is going to be able help unless you're very lucky.
