Thats why you generally have to go to a car DIY shop for it. Most of them have it.
Mobil garages are rarer than rocking horse sh1t these days.

At 850 miles? That flies in the face of conventional wisdom on this board, which holds that mineral oil is required up to the 9,000 mile service.

Mineral oil ....

Does anyone really understand why? (sounds like a myth to me)

No myth. Assists with run in. Blends with molybednum.

Myth free zone.

Put in synth at your peril.

https://www.s2ki.com/article/articleview/6/1/8/ (From the Library FAQs)

The explanation I have read is that the mineral oil helps "seal" the engine, and that if you used synthetic or semi-synthetic, it would not that "sealing" effect. I don't pretend to understand the intricacies. It was what was recommended to me by people with more technical knowledge than I have, so I went along with it.

I can't imagine that using semi-synth or synth before 9,000 is going to harm the engine, but why risk it?

I just rang the dealer who said they weren't sure what Honda put in the S2000 from new but they thought it was a semi-synthetic and then they put their cars on Mobil1 from the first service.
He said the Type R's often come in around 1 to 1.5k miles to have a change and go for the fully synthetic from that point (even though its long before the first scheduled service)

Anyway, I'm starting to rely on common sense and a slight engineering background but I don't know any more than anyone else here so I'll shut up racefully. It would be handy to know what Honda put in from new though? The first 9000 miles seems like a long time on mineral oil!

Frankly, I'd trust what a dealer told me about as much as I'd trust what my (automotively illiterate) mother told me when it comes to technical info about this car.

Well, that's not strictly true - the service manager at my local dealer is OK, but the semi-trained monkeys he works with are clueless. They told me at the outset that no running in period was required, that it didn't need servicing until 12,000 miles and, oh yes, top it up with synthetic oil.

Suffice to say that I take it all with a pinch of salt and tend to at least seek a second opinion here.

Mistake number one.

I pointed out the molybednum issues with >6k vehicles. When I got there the service sheet had this written on it:

`investigate mowlybeed them`

GO FIGURE.

Another quality service dept at Honda.
