For alignment I have read that I should really only do it with brand new tyres on. Is this correct? Since I don't have brand new tyres on now how can I get a proper alignment done? Thanks.

If you have OEM s02s on the front it will handle badly. Sidewalls and stiffness etc. Plus if you have semi worn fronts it will exagerate the problem. Once s02s are worn a bit the ride becomes a little harder so you will have a hard front and a soft rear. Not good.
There are loads of threads about the s2k sensitive handling and at very least you must have the same tyres all round.

With new tyres, they will wear in to the alignment. Yet another reason why you should always replace four tyres at once.
(Tango Man will confirm that failure to do so resulted in odd handling of his car. New fronts sorted it!)
When was your alignment last checked? Annually is good!
