Default What's under your sheet metal?

Took my babe in for a respraying a week ago. I could not handle looking at the "track trophies" all over the front fender/bonnet. I am not doing a full body respray - just the front which will be blended up to the doors, and the rear fender. The door dings will stay for now since they will come back in a week of parking anyways. She should be back in another 4-5 days. S withdrawal syndrome is a painful thing.

The paint best matched to the OEM Monte Carlo Blue was a Penta paint colour from the UK. The shop is one of the best in this country ($$$!). The job is going to cost me around UKP1166.00. How does that compare with a similar job in the UK? That would also include spraying the OEM rims in a light gun-metal like colour - actually the colour the rim takes on when a nice even layer of brake dust is on it which I find looks

Here are some pics. Sorry for the poor quality - phone camera. No wonder cars slow down over time - they are talking on unseen weight in dirt build up! All brown stuff is dirt bonded to body.

This is actually the painted front now. Has a thick layer of clear coat settling in for the grind down. When I first saw it I was aghast because of the dreaded orange peel finish - something these guys never do. They assured me that that will go away after the grinding.

Is that he only front side impact protecting we have?

If they orange peel so badly that they have to buff it out, are you sure you are in the right shop???

It seems to be the process and not a mistake. I am taking their word for it because they resprayed my civic when they fixed it after ahmm, an altercation with a ditch. Six years later when I sold the car the paint job was still glass smooth (minus chips) and looked like it was painted the day before.

CC always goes on with some orange peel.

It's what you take off that gives the finish.

Base coat is matt & goes on fairly flat.

Trinis, you should see what's under ours - wet weather = a thick coat of clay!

Progress report...

She's going to look so pwetty again....

The cause of the respray in the first place. Crater face gone!

She now has a paint finish exactly matching the OEM slightly orange peel look. They could have ground down the CC more but then half the car would have been glass finished and the rear end would have been OEM orange peel.

Of course you can't see the finish preoperly from these shots, but needless to say it is as good as new. Just waiting on the wheels now. Another couple of days....

And the hidden dirt gone! She will be faster too
