The Arran speed limit is worked out on an individual basis according to the following formula

Speedo Max, divided by number of OAPs within sight, multiplied by degrees celcius, minus the square root of visible deer plus sheep, and then that's all added to the NSL and divided by the number of police with radar guns.

Easy.

There is a very ambiguous bit of short country road right next to where I live between Knebworth and Stevenage.

As you leave Knebworth there is a NSL sign but the road has lamposts for its entire length and there is a 40Mph signpost as you get to Stevenage.

NSL where there are lamposts is 30Mph unless otherwise stated??? There is no explicit limit stated

Many people drive along the road at 40Mph ...... the daring ones to 47 but some of them do 35

Coming the other way it is the ones that do 40 that never slow down as they hit the 30Mph limit
