Times change and the road authorities "expect" people to keep up.
Like turning on the hazard indicators to warn following drivers when coming to an unexpected stop on a motorway. Nobody told me about that one
Anyway, I always seem to get behind a car that goes a 40 mph regardless of what speed limit they are actually in. What's all that about?

Yes, but how am I supposed to know that?
By the highway code obviously.
But when I passed my test I wasn't tested on whether I knew the NSL or not.
When I was driving in Lanzarote last year they had a white circle & Black line indicating national speed limit, but as I hadn't done my homework I didn't have the first idea how fast I was allowed to drive.
Now when I've driven in the states the signs have had the speed posted.
Assumptions...

You're missing Fletch's point, I think, Jamie. It's almost irrelevant whether HE knows what the limit is. The point he's making is that clearly a lot of people don't and, whatever you may think of whether they should or not, it would be much more effective to actually have a sign which states what the limit is rather than just a generic NSL sign which relies on drivers knowing for themselves.

Ah I see yes it is confusing , I read somewhere that MCB drivers are a law unto themselves anyway so just ignore the signs Fletch !!!
