Don't cheat. Just put what you think the speed limit is on a single carriageway road.

Prompted by various naff driving reports on open a/b roads, I thought I quiz people I know on what they thought the national speed limit was on a country road for instance.
The results were a very mixed bag.

IMHO That's half the problem with the driving in this country. Knowledge is assumed. How many people think the speed limit on a motorway is 50? I think you'd be surprised by the results.

I say, do away with the white circle/ black stripe piece of crap and put up real speed limit signs. (Can't see that happening fletch, cost far too much )

I would expect mostly the right answer.

There seem to be a fair number of people round here who think it's 35 - they all speed up when they come to a 40 sign

Among us oldies there is a reasonable percentage who have not updated from the early 70's oil crisis, which IIRC was when open road speed limits were first introduced. 70 on the motorway - 60 on dual carriageways - 50 on 'normal roads'. Done to conserve fuel - so nothing Mosaic in safety terms.

I think a poll on the NSL on a dual carriage way would be more interesting

See...

But it's like Mike says... Times change and the road authorities "expect" people to keep up.
