My 1992 Lotus Carlton (number 359) fitted with special exhaust, where the 2.5" pipes from the turbos where replaced with a bespoke system using 3" aero alloy pipes and expansion boxes instead of catalytic convertors, giving BIG flames every upward gear change.
Was dyno'd at 457bhp, thought to be about 475 lbs/ft of torque, and timed at inside 5 seconds to 60 and 10seconds to 100 with 4 people on board. Cannot remember the revs, but I calculated 198mph on a continental motorway in 1995, in 5th gear.(of 6). On that run, I simply left a Porsche 928GT AND a Ferrari Testarossa for dead (trying to have a go) and out of sight. But I'll tell you what, the trees and poles don't have half whizz past. My son said the same when he took my Suzuki Hayabusa up to an indicated 215mph.

I should have said fastest accelerating car on the road the SL55 is probably the quickest for me.
On a track the fastest "normal" car I've driven was a 996 GT3 and a 355 F1 (not much between them)...... single seaters the Formula Palmer Audi at Bedford Autodrome is pretty damn quick (as fast to 100 as a McLaren F1 if I remember correctly! 6.7 seconds).
But the absolute fastest for me was a Nitro Dragster in Daytona...... a big block V8 putting out around 300bhp (near 700bhp/ton) that did 0-100 in less than 4 seconds!!!

Quickest car was a Ferrari 355 challenge racecar, 450bhp and very light - gunned it around Rockingham inner circuit before I was told to slow down by the test driver It felt considerably quicker than an S !
Also my kart, when geared properly would get to 60 in just over 3 second
