I would say the car sounds quite good, very low miles. If the tyres have only done 5,000 miles then another 1 1/2 years (on the same miles) is not impossible depends how its driven. Make sure all recall work has been done.

Though he got the bit about S02's being shite right

With careful driving you can get over 12000 miles out of a set of F1s (I have never managed over 5000 on a set of rears.)

Ask to meet him halfway. If he wants to sell it he will agree.

I had a 2001 'toy', ie never commuted in, etc.... The front tyres on it are the ones from when it left the factory, they are still on it now and would expect there is an easy 2 years in them if driven in the same fashion (so thats 6 years from a set of fronts), the rears were replaced when I sold the car and the originals had done 13,500 miles.

Hope that helps.

is biased and bollocks. My S02s were awesome - if I get another S in the future, it will have S02s on it. People that moan about the S02 a: listen to hype or b: are too pussy to drive it properly and end up doing some girlish, predictable, yawn, yawn, spin existing a roundabout in the wet, yawn yawn.
(edit: or on a motorway sliproad )

Hence my icon from a few years ago....

I got two years and 15000 miles out of my rear Goodyear F1s, would have got another 10k out of the fronts.

The rears were pretty illegal when I swapped them though
