Default What the Jasus is this noise?

My S started to make a noise a couple of weeks ago and it has started to get worse.
Sounds like a chain rattleing around just behind the passenger seat. I took out the moulded carpet in the boot but cant seem to see anything.

Any ideas??

I'm gonna get a good look tonight and see if I can figure this out but any suggestions in the mean time are very welcome..

thanks,

Oisin

Check the screw that holds the spare wheel in place. It's probably loose.

I had this following a repair.
The cable that works the fuel flap was buzzing about on the rear quarter panel. Acess by removing boot trim plugs and liner and take a look.

Also check the seat belt inertial reel behind the trims on that side, maybe loose.
If you yank & hold the passenger belt tight and locked does it go away?

is it speed or revs related or more pronounced on bumpy roads

if its revs its engine related (i know it sounds from the back but vibration is a funny thing)also check the heat sheilds on the cat
if its speed related look at gearbox, prop shaft, dif, halfshafts, brakes and shrouds.
if its not related to speed or revs first breath a sigh of relief then start looking for something loose or tangled on the underside of the car

It's deffo something loose somewhere. Not speed or rev related.
It's only when I go over bumpy roads etc.

start taking a few pannels apart behind the seat and duct tape stuf down - also in the boot there are 2 metal 'bars ' there shouldbe some sound proofing on one ofthem to stop them buzzing, its quite easy to take the pannels off behind the seat andget to everything , something must be loose somewere causing the noise

OK, figured it out!!

It was the middle nut on the rear left shock/coil over.
I have Tein type CS ( i think)
Anyway, the middle nut came loose.. I hope this makes sense but where the top of the shock comes through to the inside of the car it is held in place by three bolts. The one in the middle had come loose and was rattling around.

I do have a question, how far down do I tighten it ? I tightened it about as much as the right rear shock was. Will I need to get it properly set up again or should it be ok??
