Default What if?

In an effor not to reiterate many previous discussions & bore everybody I have read as many of the old threads on replacement exhaust systems as I can in an attempt to find a route to a better sporting sound, yet retain the OE look of the twin oval outlets.
I summarised that HSK would do but now told by distributor that sound no different just the system is lighter. Trouble is everybody has too many differing views and perception of sound.

Then 3 attempts to position the sensor progressively further & further from the air flow on a de-cat pipe failed, the engine light coming on next day. Removing and replacing fuse only tempory fix. Only sounded very slightly better so maybe not worth the effort after all.

So...
is there any point in removing the central silencer & welding in a replacement section of plain pipe? My assumption based on nil technical knowledge is that the sensor being upwid so to speak will not notice the difference, might get more noise at expense of power.

But what do I know - but you probably do.

Hmmm.

The HKS is a LOT louder than stock for a start. Anyone who tells you otherwise is talking shit. Its one of the quieter aftermarket ones though. Its not oval either. The only ones i know of that are oval are Supersprint.

Re the cat pipe in the middle, how were you moving the sensor out of the flow? You can only do it with an "anti fowler" adpater. You cant just wind it out a few threads.

Welding in a section of pipe?? Why would you do that? You can get decat pipes with flanges to go in.

The sensor and its position has nothing to do with power, it just references the primary O2 sensor in the headers so see if the cat is doing its job of mopping up emissions.

I'd agree that the HKS, even the silent version which I have, is definitely louder than stock. And you need anti-fowlers for the O2 sensor.

Maybe he meant to say that it weighs about the same as stock but is louder, which would be more accurate.

Ta for helpful informed comments.

As the oval tips are removable if they are the right diameter maybe they can be fitted to the tips of a new system.

The housing for the sensor was progressively moved further back by dint of new distance pieces welded in. Is that not what an anit-fouler does?
So I do now need a proper anti-fouler> - oh er.

I realise that this all has nothing to do with power.

It was the central silencer before the pipe splits into two at the rear that I was referring to as maybe being removed & a plain section of pipe welded into its place.

Rightly as advised elsewhere be good to hear other members mods. for real.

Rightly so, but sadly work committments prevents much Honda & other car club socialising till spring.
Will certainly not make major investment until have heard for real.

Could be that if I can get a proper anti-fouler thingy, that may suffice - just a tad extra sound without being too obvious.

BTW re. your PM - my membership was paid for by cheque, member no. 745.

Thanks to you and all others for all the on-going support and advice - much appreciated when one cannot get out much!
