From time to time, I read threads on the board about other cars which members are considering buying, or even to drive alongside their S and think to myself "Bugger me! S/he must be on a right wad to be able to afford that!" I'm by no stretch of the imagination badly paid, compared to the national average wage, but I feel like a comparative pauper at times when I read on here about prospective purchases!

I appreciate that some might find this intrusive, in which case please feel free to ignore it - but I thought it might be interesting to post a poll and see what the spread is in terms of gross income. The beauty of a poll is that it's anonymous, so no-one has to post on the thread itself with details of salary.

EDIT: I've got the ball rolling, so anyone who views this thread early enough (assuming it gets more than one vote at all! ) will know what I earn!

Interesting result, the bell curve is kinda what I expected, although it is statistically too small.

Mark, I think you may be confusing income with credit, they are not necessarily the same - the economy may be entering a recession as everyone has spunked all their credit (record levels of household debt, I understand), and can spend no more.

That is why it is now a good time to buy a new car (unless of course, one is made redundant as the retail sector contracts!)

Once we have these results, how about a poll with a break-down of people's debt ?

I have no idea what I "earn". As a one-man business, with my company paying for electricity, phone, car and so on, I guess I can't complain. I haven't drawn a PAYE salary for 10 years! Still, as Chris suggests, it'll be an age before I get to paying all my credit cards off!
