Depends which ones...

Warning triangle or umbrella.
Or to hold a wheel down when you are using the spare.

Yes, you might get them around the spokes but it would be interesting trying to see what you were doing

After a bit of googling, it appears it is indeed for holding the wheel in place

You could just carry the wheel on your lap.
And hope it doesnt explode

Ta for the strap info, never read that before and obviously dont have a manual now
