Car is an 02-reg so imagine it is 7 years old. Loads of life left in it yet, its not getting another one any time soon I'll put it on charge and see how we get on!

Sounds like the bonnet switch may have got a little damp...

Well despite a Honda dealer trying to convince me otherwise, I changed the battery and the issue is now gone with the alarm!

Just had my bonnet switch replaced at Lincoln Honda as my alarm had similar issues to those listed above (I had a new circuit board middle of last year as well).
All sorted now, but still robbed me of 65 notes

At seven it's most likely on its last legs.

Battery checked and is fine - the conditioned went straight to "ready and maintaining", was on "charge" for less than 10 seconds. If it were on its last legs, I'd expect it to need a charge given I've had the lights/radio/heaters on virtually every journey of late!

I'll have a look at the bonnet sensor next.
